Nothing Beyond What is Written

In 1 Corinthians 1:10-4:13, Paul gives eight reasons why the Corinthians should not be dividing into factions. The final two reasons are ethical reasons: the Corinthians have overstepped their bounds by judging the Apostles and have arrogantly gone beyond what is written (vv. 4:1-6).
The Scriptures Paul has in mind in the phrase “nothing beyond what is written,” are those he has been using throughout his exhortation (Isa 29:14; 40:13; 52:15; 64:4; Jb 5:13; Ps 94:11). Collectively, they evaluate human wisdom as destructible, lacking, pathetic, and futile.
