Jesus Prays for Unity

As we begin 2024, we return once more to the prayer of our Lord as He was hours away from His arrest, trials, and execution on the cross. We have focused upon various elements of the prayer in the past weeks. We focused upon the word, “glory” in the Lord’s prayer; we focused upon the words “keep(ing) and sanctify” in our last installment. Today we will seek to understand the desire for “unity and oneness” that was upon the heart of Jesus.

A person’s innermost being is revealed by genuine prayer; this is a unique opportunity to see the nature and heart of Jesus. In this prayer, Jesus’ focus upon the glory of faithful obedience to the Father involves also the unique oneness and unity that He experienced with the Father.
